미국 독일, 우크라이나에 장갑차 지원하기로 

미국에 이어 독일도 우크라이나에 전차(레오파르트2)를 지원하겠다고 발표했습니다.

미 국방부는 그간 운용과 보수가 까다롭고, 전차를 보내는 데만 해도 상당한 시간이 소요되기 때문에 에이브럼스를 지원하지 않겠다는 입장을 견지해왔다. 워싱턴포스트는 고위 당국자들의 말을 인용해 미국이 30대의 에이브럼스 전차를 지원하더라도 우크라이나군이 인도하려면 수개월에서 수년이 소요돼 제때 사용하기 어렵다면서, 결국 바이든 행정부의 지원 결정은 “독일의 정체를 깨기 위해 설계된 것”이라고 전했다. 미 언론 보도 직후 올라프 숄츠 독일 총리는 성명을 내고 우크라이나에 최소 14대의 레오파르트2를 지원하기로 결정했으며, 자국제 레오파르트를 보유한 다른 나라들이 우크라이나에 지원할 수 있도록 재수출도 허용하기로 했다고 밝혔다.
