한국의 '매운'맛이 어느정도 인지 몰랐던 미국인 

영어로 spicy가 맵다잖아요?  한 미국인이 한국 불닭라면에 스파이스를 보고 그냥 어느정도 맵거니 하고 먹어봤나봐요. 그런데 한국의 '매운'의 의미는 아예 다른 차원이란 걸 제대로 느꼈나봅니다.

You need to hear about the Asian bone soups for cold.

I'm from India and we make a bone soup from the big bones of goat, it's boiled/cooked reduced overnight in high heat, to the point the bones disintegrate. The broth also has liberal amount spices and peppers that have been reduced with the bones, a bowl of that heavenly soup is guaranteed to keep cold away for a year. You'll definitely sweat and pour from all pores of your body while eating it, but. So. Worth. It.

There are similar bone broths and soups with different twists all over the continent. :D

추울때 먹는 아시안 스타일 뼈 국에 대해 들어봤나요. 

난 인도사람이고 우린 염소 뼈로 뼈국물 내요. 밤새 끓여가지고 뼈가 완전히 흐물해질때까지 팍 고아서 내죠. 

국물엔 뼈와 함께 매운 맛과 후추를 좀 넣어가지고 국물 한 사발 먹으면 일년동안 추위를 이겨내죠. 

이거 먹으면 땀 흘리지만 가치가 있는 맛이에요.

Ofcourse! it's called "mutton paya soup" (pronounced "Paaaya" soup) it's famous in the southern part of India.

Home recipes usually call for using the pressure cooker to reduce cook times, but the smoky taste and the depth of flavor in that bone broth cooked all night on coals is a different level. 

물론이죠. 이름은 "머튼파야국"이에요. 인도 남부지역에서 매우 유명한 음식이고 조리시간을 줄이기 위해 압력밥솥을 이용해서 주로 만들어요. 하지만 훈제의 맛과 국물의 밤새 깊은 맛은 다른 레벨이죠.

Thai is the real spicy. Koreans really don't eat spicy food, I mean the noodles got so popular with videos online people kinda think this is a Korean thing like gramdmas and kids are chowing down at dinner on this shit. Avg spicy for Korean is OG Gochujang (basically tobacco level), not even the extra spicy one.

태국음식도 정말 매운데 한국인들은 사실 진짜로 매운 음식 안먹어요. 

내 말은 라면이 온라인에서 너무 유명해서 사람들은 이게 한국 스타일이라고 생각하는데. 

한국인들에게 평균 매운맛은 보통 고추장 맛이에요 (이건 기본적으로 담배 수준이죠), 

정말로 매운 것은 아니에요.

I loved Korean food but I never found anything too spicy to handle when I lived there. Gochujang is insanely delicious.

Thailand had me shedding tears but it was worth it.

나 정말 한국 음식 좋아하는데 한국 살때 진짜로 못먹을 만큼의 매운 건 못봤어요. 

고추장은 그냥 너무 맛있어요. 태국에선 먹다가 눈물 흘린 적 있지만 그럴 만한 가치가 있었어요.

We went to get Korean fried chicken in Saturday. Aunty apologised that they didn't have the spicy, only sweet. Sweet was about as spicy as the 8/10 spice level at any wings joint. Koreans do not disappoint.

우리 토욜에 한국식 프라이드치킨 먹으러 갔었어요. 이모님이 매운게 없다고 사과했어요 단것만 있다고. 

단거는 매운 것의 10분의 8정도로 맵죠. 

한국인들은 실망시키지 않아요.

I’m Vietnamese (South, which has a spicier palette than the North) and Koreans are straight up built different. If you have the pleasure of going to a Korean Friend Chicken restaurant and want to tempt fate, get the spicy chicken. I was dying. If you want to concede defeat like me, get the soy garlic

전 베트남 사람인데요 (남부요, 남부가 북부보다 더 매운 걸 먹죠). 

한국인들은 정말 다르게 만들어진 민족같아요. 한국 치킨집 가서 매운 치킨 먹으면 죽을 것 같아요. 

나처럼 느끼고 싶은 쏘이갈릭맛 시켜봐요. 

한국인들에 매운 맛이란 죽음이죠.

Man Korean Spicy is a whole different game for most people. A lot of places will STILL tone it doen when I tell the server to “Make me regret living” level hot.

한국의 매운 맛은 정말 대부분의 사람들에게 다른 게임이나 마찬가지에요. 

마치 "사는 걸 후회하게 만들어주는" 그럴 정도의 수준이죠.

내 한국 친구들은 스트레스 받을때 매운 거 먹는다고 했어요. "입안을 태우는 느낌은 내 문제들을 잠깐 잊게 해준다"라고 했어요. 입안이 타는 것에 대해선 걱정되지 않아요

Buldak doesn't fuck around.From what I understand its pretty normal in Korea to put american cheese in their ramen to tone it down a little.

불닭라면 엄청 심하진 않은데. 내가 알기론 한국에서 그정도 매운 건 흔하고 살짝 덜 맵게 하려고 라면에 치즈 넣기도 해요.

I'm Asian and I can't handle that stuff! Korean spicy is deadly. I eat Jin Ramen in MILD and that's the best I can do

난 아시안이고 그렇게 너무 매운 건 못먹겠어요. 한국의 매운맛은 죽음이에요. 난 진라면 순한맛맛 먹어요. 

그게 내가 할 수 있는 최선이에요.

Everything about Korean cuisine is about extremes. Soups are served boiling, flavors are always powerful, gochujang/gochugarul on everything, then you have cold soup noodles that are meant to taste like nothing. Shits wild.

대부분의 한국음식은 극도로 매워요. 국물은 팔팔 끓여 나오고 맛은 항상 강해요. 고추장, 고추가루가 모든 음식에 있는 것 같아요. 그런담에 아무 맛도 안나는 것 같은 차가운 국물면을 먹게되죠.
