끝이없는 미국 대도시 쥐떼문제 

한국인들 보면 기겁할 만한 크기의 쥐떼들이 미국 대도시 전역을 활개치고 다닙니다. 

이제 지하철이나 공원에서 쥐를 보는 것은 일상이 되어버렸고 사람들을 전혀 두려워하지 않는 쥐떼들은 지하철에서 잠든 사람의 몸을 타고 다니기 까지 합니다. 뉴욕시는 쥐떼와 맞설 적임자를 찾는다며 연봉 약 2억원 까지 걸어놓고 사람을 찾고 있는 상황이며 이제 개개인이 쥐를 잡는 능력을 키우자는 목소리도 나오고있습니다. 별의 별 쥐 퇴치법을 적용하고 있지만 번식력 끝판왕인 쥐를 박멸하기엔 역부족인 상황입니다. 뉴욕, 보스턴시는 쥐와의 전쟁을 선포한 지 오래라고 합니다. 어떤 집은 오죽하면 집 전체를 폭파시킨 경우도 있다고 하니 쥐박멸이 정말 쉽지 않은 듯 하네요. 고양이들조차 몸집 큰 쥐들은 피하는 영상들도 있고 쥐 잡는 전문 개들도 있다고 합니다.

We have a really bad Rat problem on my block. I been living on this block for over 40 years. We went to throw out the garbage. And two big rats jumped right out of my trash cans at me. I have traps all around my property. They’ve eaten a hole right through my trash cans. 

우리 동네에도 쥐 문제 심각한데 40년 이상이나 봤어요. 사람들은 쓰레기를 그냥 버리는데 어느날은 커다란 쥐 두 마리가 우리집 쓰레기통에서 튀어나왔어요. 집주변에 쥐덫도 설치했는데 쓰레기통 안에 전체를 먹어치우더라고요.

 First of all, the garbage in bags on the sidewalk has to go to an incinerator. Containers with closed lids are essential to deny rats a food source.

일단 모든 거리의 쓰레기통들은 소각시켜야합니다. 그리고 쥐들이 음식 찾지 못하게 뚜껑닫힌 통들이 필요해요.
