(미국반응) 팬데믹 이후 미국인들도 지친 팁 문화 

팬데믹 이후 테이크아웃을 해가는데 왜 팁을 줘야하는지에 대한 의문이 증가하고 있지만 워낙에 팁 문화가 깊숙히 박힌 미국이고 또 계산할때 팁을 몇프로로 할 지 선택하는 옵션이 있어 어쩔 수 없이 팁을 주고 있어 팁 피로감을 느낀다 합니다. 제가 사는 중남미도 이런 미국의 팁 문화는 철썩같이 받아들여 식당에 가면 늘 10%할거냐 20%할거냐 묻곤 합니다. 

한국처럼 종업원의 급여에 서비스(팁)까지 포함되어 있는 나라가 내 나라다 보니 아직까지도 익숙하지 않는 것이 이 팁 문화인데, 어쩔땐 이해가 되고 또 어쩔땐 고용주가 부담해야 하는 걸 왜 손님에게 전가하지 라는 생각이 들때도 참 많습니다. 돈 뿌리면서 나는 관대하다 나는 지위가 높다 나를 깍듯이 모셔라 시전하고 싶은 천민자본주의라는 생각도 떨쳐내기 힘듭니다. 역시 자본주의 최강국가 미국. 

그런데 테이크아웃을 하면서도 팁 문화를 없애지 않는 고용주들때문에 미국인들조차 요즘 지쳐있는 모양입니다.

I tip based on the experience I get from the servers. I normally tip %15 in “cash” because the servers are getting taxed on those tips via electronic transactions, I know because I worked in a bar for 6 months last year and got taxed for all tips electronically. If the business is stating that there is a mandatory gratuity, then I will go somewhere else.

보통 서버한테 받은 서비스를 바탕으로 팁을 줘요. 대략 15%를 현금으로 주는데 카드로 결제하면 팁에 대한 세금도 서버가 내야하거든요. 나도 작년에 6개월동안 바에서 일해봐서 알아요. 사업장에서 팁이 의무라고 명시되어 있으면 다른 곳으로 가버립니다.

In some countries it’s considered rude to tip. Server’s want cash tips because they don’t want to claim all of it. Start paying better wages and the tips won’t be a problem

어떤 나라에선 팁을 주면 예의없다고들 하죠. 서버들은 팁을 보고하지 않으려고 현금 팁을 바랍니다. 급여를 제대로 주면 팁은 문제가 될 것이 없죠.

If everyone “gets a better job,” there will be no one who works as servers, bartenders, or runners in bars and restaurants. Do you think those jobs should be eliminated? If we want restaurants and coffee shops and bars to exist, someone has to work at them. Your solution doesn’t make sense.

(윗댓글에) 모두들 "더 나은 일자리"를 구하게 되면 바나 식당에서 서버, 바텐더, 잔심부름꾼으로 일할 사람이 없게 될 것입니다. 그런 일자리들이 없어져야 한다고 생각하나요? 우리가 식당, 카페, 바가 존재하길 바란다면 누군가는 그런 일을 해야죠. 당신의 해결책은 말이안돼요.

Choosing the amount to tip is relative to the quality of service the waiter or bartender performed.

팁의 양을 선택하는건 웨이터나 바텐더가 한 일의 퀄러티랑 상관있는 거죠.

I tipped a lot during the pandemic just to thank service workers putting themselves at risk. Now I’m back to pre-pandemic tipping. Don’t be expecting hazard pay after the hazard is gone.

사실 팬데믹 동안엔 서비스직 근로자들이 위험을 무릎쓰고 일하는 것에 대해 팁을 많이 줬어요. 지금은 팬데믹 이전처럼 팁을 줍니다. 위험이 지나갔는데 위험수당(팁)을 기대하면 안돼죠.

Taking the order and preparing the food is not what tips are for. You are working for the business owner. He should pay you. Waiting on table and deliveries are extra services, not part of the food. Those deserve tips.

주문을 받고 음식을 준비하는 것 때문에 팁을 주면 안돼죠. 고용주를 위해 일을 하고 있는 거잖아요. 그리고 고용주가 월급을 주잖아요. 테이블 시중을 들고 음식을 갖다주는 건 추가 서비스고 그건 음식의 부분이 아니고요. 그런 것에 대해 팁을 주는겁니다.

tipping culture is got to go. in Europe they don't tip like here in the states. you want a tip? ask your employer to give you tip. I'm here to pay for food that the business owner is selling. what you do as the person who prepares it is between you and the employer. this whole tipping shit has got to stop.

팁문화는 이제 지나갔다 유럽에선 미국처럼 팁을 주지 않는다. 팁을 바라나? 그럼 고용주에게 팁을 달라고 해라. 식당 주인이 파는 음식값을 지불하러 식당에 가는것이다. 서버가 하는 일은 서버와 고용주 사이의 일이다. 이 모든 개똥같은 팁 문화는 멈춰야 한다.

Make employers pay out properly, period. The only thing that should be tipped is service where they have to wait on you. Drive thru, no. You are already paid to do that service. That is what the job is.

고용주가 근로자에게 합당한 임금을 지불해야하는 것이다. 팁을 줘야 하는 유일한 이유는 손님을 위해 식탁에서 시중을 들때 뿐이다. 드라이브뜨루도 그 돈에 팁 서비스가 다 포함되어 있는 것이니 안주는 것이 맞다.

my personal opinion is tipping culture should go away permanently and people should be paid a living wage.

팁 문화는 영원히 사라져야 한다고 생각합니다. 그리고 근로자들은 합당한 급여를 받아야 합니다.

I tip well for sit down dinners, usually 30%, not for a drive through though

보통 앉아서 식사할때는 팁을 30%지불합니다. 하지만 드라이브뜨루로 갈땐 주지 않습니다.

McDonald's employees are not allowed to receive tips.  I tried at two different locations here in L.A. and was told if they took a tip they could be fired.

맥도날드 노동자들은 팁을 받지 않아요. 엘에이의 다른 두군데 맥도날드에서 주려고 했는데 자기네들은 받으면 짤린데요.

This is only a problem in America.  Most other countries include the tip in the price of the food and pay their servers well.

정말 미국에서만 팁이 문제네요. 대부분 다른 나라에선 음식값에 팁이 포함되어 있고 서버들에게 주는 임금도 괜찮아요.

And alot of people say "if you don't want to tip don't go" but how productive is that to a business  that people stop going because aside paying overpriced food you have to give a 20% for a pickup or drive-thru.

많은 사람들이 "팁 주기 싫으면 가지마"라고 말하지만 테이크아웃 음식이나 드라이브뜨루할때도 팁을 20%나 줘가면서 갈 이유가 없죠.

One of the most annoying tipping scenario is a local pizza shop or local coffee shop where pick up is accompanied by a receipt with a spot for tipping.  No, No, No.  I will tip at a restaurant and delivery but not for a pick up.

가장 짜증나는 건 동네 피자가게나 카페에서 영수증을 받았는데 팁을 얼마줄 건지 적혀져 있는 겁니다. 안줌 안줌 안줌 이라고 계속 누르죠. 식당에선 팁을 주지만 딜리버리나 직접 픽업할땐 안주죠.
