뉴욕타임스에서 이번 한국의 침수 피해에 대해 심도있는 기사를 썼네요. 

이번 폭우 피해를 한국의 주택난과 사회적 불평등과 관련시켰는데 동의하지 않을 수가 없습니다. 

한국어 발음 '반지하'그대로 옮긴 'banjiha'라고 표현하며 영화 '기생충'에 나오는 장면과 유사하다고 하네요. 

반지하가 무슨 뜻인지 음절을 나누어 설명까지 해주었습니다.

All governments need to build safe, affordable housing for lower income people. This is an avoidable tragedy. I’m so sorry for all those folk affected.

모든 정부는 저소득 계층을 위한 안전하고 감당할 수 있는 주택을 지어줄 필요가 있다. 

이렇게 해야 비극을 피할 수 있다. 피해받은 모든 사람들이 참 안되었다.

Incredible that Parasite was 2019 and still in our minds so the whole world understands what a flood in a banjiha means. I saw that they want to do away with basement housing but the flooding problem will still remain. If you don't do anything about it, the basements will be unusable and will just rot with all the mold the floods bring.

기생충은 2019년 영화였고 여전히 우리 마음속에 있어서 전세계가 반지하 홍수가 무슨 말인지 이해합니다. 

반지하 주택들 없애려고 한 걸 알지만 여전히 홍수문제는 남아있네요.

So sad for those who perished.  However, banning these homes will make them homeless.  Seems like the government did't think this through.

돌아가신 분들 정말 슬프네요 하지만 반지하를 금지하는 건 그들을 노숙자들로 만들거에요. 

정부가 제대로 고려해보지 않은 것 같네요.

As soon as the August 2022 Flood hit Seoul. It instantly reminded me of that flood scene from Parasite (2019). I immediately rewatch that movie & it's a possible case of "Predictive Programming" in Korean movies due to how similar it is. It's a massive flood & it happened at night in Seoul, that's too good to only just be a coincidence!

이번에 서울에 홍수가 강타하자마자 2019년 영화 기생충 장면들이 떠올랐습니다. 난 바로 영화를 다시 보고 이번 재해와 얼마나 비슷한지 한국영화의 예언프로그래밍 같다는 생각을 했네요. 정말 강력한 홍수였고 서울에서 밤에 일어난 일이잖아요. 우연이기엔 너무 정확하네요.

And what is going to happen to the people living in those houses? Will the government make alternate arrangements for them or will they be left deserted on the streets? Any information about that? I genuinely want to know.

반지하 사는 사람들 이제 어떡하나요? 정부가 그들을 위한 대안을 마련해줄까요?  아니면 그냥 거리로 나가야 하는 걸까요?  그에 대한 정보가 있나요? 정말 알고싶네요.

They should be given some sort of relief.. but i don't think they will be given alternative arrangement.. hopefully they do get a place

반지하 살면서 이번에 피해입은 사람들은 어느 정도의 구호품을 지급받을 것이지만 제대로 된 대안책을 받진 못할 겁니다. 그들이 어떤 안전한 장소에 가게 되면 좋겠네요.

Is housing going to become more affordable then? Because simply banning basement homes is not going to solve the problem.

그럼 이제 주거비용이 좀 더 감당할 수 있는 가격이 되는 걸까요? 왜냐하면 반지하를 그냥 금지하는 건 문제를 해결하는 게 아니잖아요.
