(샌프란시스코=연합뉴스) 김태종 특파원 = 미국 캘리포니아주가 뉴욕주에 이어 두 번째로 1일(현지시간) 원숭이두창에 대한 비상사태를 선포했다.

개빈 뉴섬 주지사는 이날 오후 원숭이두창 발발에 대한 대응 노력을 가속화하기 위해 비상사태를 선포한다고 밝혔다.

미 질병통제예방센터(CDC)의 주별 감염자 집계에 따르면 이날 현재 원숭이두창 확진 사례는 뉴욕주(1천390건)에 이어 캘리포니아주(827건)가 뒤를 잇고 있다.

뉴욕주는 지난달 30일 비상사태를 선포한 바 있다.

뉴섬 주지사는 "이날 선포로 주정부는 연방정부와 함께 더 많은 백신을 확보하고, 위험을 줄이는 데 대한 지각을 높이는 동시에 계속해서 성소수자(LGBTQ)와 함께 할 것"이라고 말했다.

최근 미국 내 원숭이두창 감염 의심 사례 가운데 성적 지향이 확인된 17건 중 16건이 남성 간의 성적 관계와 관련된 것으로 파악됐다.

미국에서 원숭이두창 감염은 늘어나는 추세지만 백신 추가 공급은 10월 말에나 가능해 백신 공백이 3개월간 이어질 수 있다는 전망이 제기된다.

미국이 지난달 말까지 확보한 백신은 모두 110만회 분량으로 1인당 2회 기본접종 시 55만명이 접종할 수 있는 것으로 알려졌다.

Bigger worry would be from the weight benches or other equipment. Anything that gets body sweat on it can get monkeypox residue on it from the same body part.

I always used to laugh at the scene in zombie movies where the guy gets bit and tries to hide it. Like 100 he's going to die and kill everyone along with him, no real person would intentionally put everyone in danger like that. 

좀비영화에서 보면 물린사람들이 항상 숨기려고 해서 웃겼는데. 꼭 죽게되고 모두를 같이 죽게하더라고. 

현실에서도 마찬가지로 다른 모두를 위험에 일부러 처하게 하더라.

Wipe your shit down after use. The gym I go to has numerous cleansing stations of paper towels and disinfectant. It's common courtesy to wipe a station or a bench down after use. I use my downtime between my third and fourth set to go get some towels to make sure it's in the shape for the next person that I hope it would be when I utilize it.

헬스장에서 사용하고 항상 닦아요. 짐 가면 알콜티슈랑 소독제 많잖아요. 사용하고 닦아놓는 건 기본예의에요. 

난 3~4세트 운동하고 나면 항상 티슈 가지고 와서 닦아요. 내가 사용할때도 그 전 사람이 그렇게 해놓길 바래요.

과학자들과 보건관계자들은 원숭이두창이 미국에서 지속적으로 돌 것이라 걱정하고 있다.

Nah. We're eradicating ourselves. Ultimately all this is a result of what we've done over years and years of neglecting the planet.

It's not that it is "that bad." This is a precautionary measure. They need more resources than normal to deal with this. That means an increase in purchasing vaccines and PPE. That means an increase in spending.

아니요 그렇게 심각한 상황은 아닙니다. 예방적인 차원에서 이렇게 뉴스나온거에요. 

평소보다 원숭이두창 다루리 위한 좀 더 많은 방법이 필요할 뿐이죠. 

백신과 PPE 구매를 늘려야 한다는 의미죠. 그건 지출이 늘어난다는 의미이기도 하고요.

As a physician seeing this in the emergency department almost daily now, it’s very frustrating that we didn’t do more to prevent the spread and awareness of this pathogen. It’s like the world learned jack shit from Covid.

의사로서 매일 요즘 비상상황을 보고있어요. 전염병이 번지는 걸 막기 위해 더 많은 걸 하지 못한 것이 참 좌절스럽습니다. 세계가 코비드 상황으로부터 배운 게 아무것도 없는 것 같아요.

It honestly felt like public exhaustion from Covid. People just didn’t want to hear about another possible disease spreading and would rather ignore it all together.

정말 코로나사태로 대중이 지친 걸 느끼네요. 사람들은 더이상 다른 가능한 전염병에 대해 알고 싶어하지 않고 무시하는 것 같아요.

When the news of Monkey Pox first hit, I mentioned it to a room full of my co-workers. The response was an overwhelming eye roll. They knew nothing about the disease, nothing about how it's spread or what their risk was, they automatically didn't believe in it.

처음 원숭이두창 뉴스 나왔을때 동료들한테 말해줬었고 반응은 그저 눈알만 굴렸을뿐이에요. 

이것에 대해 아무것도 몰랐죠. 위험에 대해서도요. 

그냥 안믿었었던거죠.

Maybe not the right place to ask but would going to the gym be risky? With sweat and sharing machines I'm getting a bit worried.

정말 헬스장이 위험하게 될까요? 땀흘리고 기계 같이 쓰는것이?  걱정되기 시작하네요.
