댓글 내용이랑은 상관없지만 처음 낳았을때 장려금을 주는 제도보다는 시간이 훨씬 오래 걸리더라도 사회가 다 같이 아이를 키우는 통합 시스템이 언젠가 자리잡았으면 좋겠습니다.

These polices never work. It happened in Australia in the past with the 'Baby Bonus'. All that happens is that people who were already going to have a kid gets a larger subsidy.

저런 보조금 정책 절대 안통해요. 과거 호주에서도 "아기 보너스"라는 명목으로 진행된바 있죠. 그저 이미 아이들이 있는 사람들만이 보조금을 더 받았을뿐이에요.

It's funny how nobody figured out that if people could afford their own house and stable income they would be back into making babies. But somehow they will try everything else but that.

사람들이 제대로 된 집과 안정된 수입을 가질 수 있으면 아이를 다시 가질 생각을 한다는 걸 아무도 고려하지 않는 것이 우습다. 왜 그런지 모르겠지만 그것을 고려하는 것 빼곤 다 하는 것 같다.

Not surprised at all after hearing how work-life balance in Korea and how schoolchildren are pushed to insane levels.

People probably simply don't have the energy for families.

I say this as someone with no idea of the real situation, just basing my opinion on the things i've read about life there.

한국에서의 워라밸과 아이들이 학교에서 얼마나 압박받는지 듣고 난 뒤 놀랍지도 않네요. 한국인들은 가족들을 위한 에너지가 없는거에요. 한국 현실에 대해 기사를 읽어본 뒤 제 의견을 말한 거랍니다.

You're totally right, as someone who's lived in Korea. I teach ESL abroad and my Korean students were easily the best and smartest out of anywhere else I've been. However, they were also the most stressed and overworked.

(윗댓글에) 맞아요. 한국에서 살아본 사람으로서 맞는 말이에요. 저도 한국에서 영어를 가르쳤었는데 한국학생들은 정말 그 어떤 나라학생보다 똑똑해요. 하지만 그들은 세상 가장 압박받고 있고 과로해요.

I currently teach in Korea at a foreign language high school. Kids here don't have time to enjoy being kids. It's always school, hagwon for four hours, then going home and doing homework. Rinse and repeat every day plus weekends. The amount of time they have to simply enjoy something that is fun for them is depressing.

난 지금 한국 고등학교에서 외국어 가르치고 있어요. 한국 아이들은 아이로서 놀 시간이 없어요. 항상 학교 갔다 4시간 이상은 학원에 있다가 집에가서 숙제를 하죠. 매일매일 주말까지 이 일상이 반복되어요. 보내는 대부분의 시간이 그들에겐 우울함이에요.

For comparison, the annual working hours of Koreans was 323 hours longer the hours worked in Japan, which tallied 1,644 hours on average.

Korea has excellent zoning laws, excellent social programs. Excellent transit and mobility across the country. Lower inflation than the west.

They just suffer deeply culturally and have run into a wall that no amount of government intervention will raise the fertility rate till the work culture chills the hell out.

한국은 지역자치법도 훌륭하고 훌륭한 사회프로그램이 있어요. 지역별로 이동하기도 좋고 다른 서방국가보다 물가인상률도 상대적으로 낮죠. 다만 한국은 문화적으로 깊이 힘든 점이 있어요 그리고 정부의 개입이 출산율을 높이는 문화가 되기까지에 미미한거죠.

If you have a baby, as a woman, you are effectively retired.

You will be sent on leave with the expectation that you never come back.

This is technically illegal, but not enforced.

아이 낳으면 여자로서 사실상 은퇴한 것입니다. 절대 다시 복귀하지 않겠다는 주변의 기대하에 출산휴가 얻는 것입니다. 이건 사실 불법이지만 강요된 것은 아니죠.

Parasite was also about this, as is Bong Joon-ho's other films Snowpiercer and Mother. I really respect him for trying to tell the world about the class divisions in South Korea
