As a Singaporean, one of the things our history books constantly reminded us was that "we are ultimately responsible for our own defense, no one else would be responsible for defending our country when it comes down to war". Ironically, the one who taught us this lesson the hard way was none other than Imperial Japan in WWII.

While I understand the fear, to be fair Japan is not the nation it used to be, things would have to change a lot for them to repeat the actions of WWII.

The Japanese aircraft carriers specifically can only accommodate the F-35Bs, which are the ones with vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, because they used to be helicopter carriers.

Not a surprise.  It's had a powerful navy for quite some time now.  As a close ally to the US, I would expect that Japan would be up to the task of maintaining the free world in a very tricky area where it is in close proximity to China and North Korea.

사실 놀랍지도 않다. 꽤 오랜시간동안 강력한 해군을 보유하고 있었으니.

 Yes, our nations were at war in WW2, but ever since, our nations have had very warm relationships. I certainly consider Japan one of my favorite foreign nations, if not my favorite outright. If Japan wants to rearm, I see no problem with that whatsoever. The Japanese people have embraced democracy with fervor, recognizing the value of personal freedom, liberty, and human rights. So yes, as an American, I love Japan and her people. The only people who get to decide Japan's future are the Japanese people.

When comparing Japan's new military budget to China's current budget it is important to remember that much of China's military budget is spent on controlling its own populace.

According to information that came out today, Japan plans to deploy 1,000 cruise long-range missiles to bridge the missile gap with China.

The missiles will be converted from 100 km range to 1000 km.

It is quite amazing to consider that not too long ago, Japan and the USA were fighting each other as two of the most powerful militaries on Earth... and now consider that they have become friends are forming up a team together.  Japan + USA is a tremendously powerful combination of technology and power.
