(영국반응) 수낙총리, 18세까지 수학 의무교육화 

영국 수낙 총리는 수학 교육이 국가의 장래와 개인의 미래를 위해 대단히 중요하다는 점을 강조했습니다. 그는 “내 인생의 모든 기회는 내가 운 좋게 받은 교육에서 시작됐다”면서 “내가 정치에 뛰어든 가장 큰 이유는 모든 학생에게 최고의 교육을 제공하기 위해서였다”고 교육 정책의 중요성을 강조했네요. 영국에서는 대학 입시를 준비하는 12~13학년(만 17~18세)은 3~4과목만 선택해 공부한다고 합니다. 이 때문에 어려운 수학을 배우지 않는 학생이 많다네요.

A maths teacher has a vested interest, that's why he thinks it's a good Idea, the truth is most people don't need maths only the basics, only people in the jobs that requires maths need it, a bricklayer only needs to be able to count bricks and is money.

수학선생님은 기득권을 가지고 있어 수낙총리가 좋은 생각이라고 의견내는거에요. 사실 대부분의 사람들은 기초수학 빼곤 수학이 필요없어요. 일적으로 좀 더 필요한 사람들만 수학을 더 공부하면 되죠. 벽돌공은 벽돌을 셀 줄만 알면되고 그게 수학인 겁니다.

수낙총리는 16세 이후엔 더 이상 교육받지 못하는 수많은 사람들이 있다는 걸 깨닫기엔 너무나 부자네요.

The problem is really, we´ve already got people failing maths much earlier than that and plenty of people who don´t have basic numeracy. Rather than making it compulsory for 16 and 17 year olds to keep doing maths, it would be better to stop kids getting lost in the system  already. 

진짜 문제는, 기본적인 수학 능력을 갖추고 있지 않는 많은 사람들이 일찍이 수학을 포기한다는 것입니다. 17세이상까지 수학을 의무로 만들기 보단 너무 일찍 수학을 포기하는 학생들을 멈추게 하는 겁니다.
