(해외반응) 홍콩 건물 중간엔 왜 커다란 구멍을 만들어놓을까 

홍콩에서 보이는 수많은 고층건물 대부분 중간에 사진과 같은 구멍이 있다고 합니다. 왜일까요?

강한 미신으로부터 오는 믿음과 어느정도의 과학적인 이유 둘 다가 있는데 하나는 용이 저 구멍을 통해 산으로부터 바다로 다닐 수 있게 해주기 위해서라네요. 용이 자유로이 다닐 수 있는 구멍이 없으면 전체 홍콩시의 에너지에 영향을 준다고 믿고있습니다. 일명 드래곤게이트(Dragon Gates)라고 하네요. 풍수지리를 강하게 믿고 있는 홍콩인들은 아직도 건물을 지을때 풍수지리학자와 상의하면서 짓는 경우가 많다고 합니다.

Maybe Ukraine buildings could have been designed with this in mind. Russian rockets would magically head straight through the holes on the way to the ocean.

아마 우크라이나 건물들이 이런 식으로 디자인되어야 할 것 같네요. 러시아 로켓들이 구멍을 통해 바다로 바로 불가사의하게 빠져버리라고요.

I do not know if the holes are good for dragons, feng shui, or any other nonsense. However, as a civil engineer, I do know that those holes increase the irregularity of buildings and affect their performance under transient loads. So, it is a stupid idea anyway.

구멍이 용이나 풍수지리학적으로 좋다는 건 모르겠지만 토목기사 입장으로 저런 구멍은 그저 건물의 불균형을 증가시키고 건물하중에 영향끼칩니다. 그러니 바보같은 생각이에요.
